The International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) has three major events on the horizon in 2025 – and two already past (the Uganda Workshop on UV Water Treatment, see page 46, and Advancing UV Germicidal Efficacy Measurement, with an event wrap planned for Issue 2 of UV Solutions). The association’s mission is “to make the use of Ultraviolet Technology a leading technology for public health and environmental applications, and to position IUVA as the leading authority on the use of Ultraviolet Technology through advocacy to the education, industry, research and public policy sectors worldwide.” This flurry of events throughout the calendar year will see education efforts focused in Uganda, Portugal, Singapore and the United States.

2025 IUVA World Congress
With increasing challenges in air and surface disinfection, including the rise of emerging infectious diseases, drinking water safety, water reuse, wastewater treatment, air pollution, hospital-acquired infections, ballast water treatment, and industrial effluents, UV technologies are rapidly finding new applications. This conference will spotlight the latest advancements in UV technology and research, tackling today’s critical environmental, health and process treatment issues.
Additionally, the event will explore trends in UV regulations and emerging applications, including how UV disinfection can support more efficient water use where water reuse is critical to sustainable operations.
Abstracts should be submitted online by March 31, 2025. Suggested topics include:
- Regulatory, certification and guidelines
- System validation: bioassay, modeling, sensing
- Technology trends: system design, light sources, electronic drivers, sensors
- Safety: UV-C, Far UV
- Startup, commissioning, operation and maintenance
Application science may include water treatment, surface treatment, air treatment and contamination reduction. Application solutions may include municipal, industrial, commercial, residential, healthcare, aquatics and marine. Industrial showcase topics also are requested, which are encouraged to be of a technical nature.

Third International Congress on Far-UVC Science and Technology 2025
The International Congress on Far-UVC Science and Technology (ICFUST) has partnered with the International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) to gather experts and thought leaders from across the globe to discuss advancements in Far UV-C technologies.
The congress will take place at the Sustainability, Energy and Environmental Community at the University of Colorado Boulder in Boulder, Colorado. According to the university’s website, the “Sustainability, Energy and Environment Community (SEEC) brings together more than a dozen programs and industry partners under one roof. SEEC is home to some of the best minds in environmental and sustainability research at CU and in federal labs. An LEED-certified building houses shared labs featuring a new generation of analytical instruments and synthesis capabilities not available elsewhere on CU’s campus. An adjoining 290,000 square-foot provides space for teaching, programs, collaborative work, and community connections. The community is designed to generate interaction and collaboration, fostering chance encounters that can generate sparks of discovery.”
The event will host an evening reception and a Congress Gala at a local restaurant to showcase the best of Boulder, and more than 200 people are expected to attend the 3rd ICFUST.
ICFUST 2025 is accepting abstracts for oral and poster presentations. Researchers, industry professionals and innovators are invited to submit abstracts for consideration by March 14, 2025, with notification of acceptance by April 11, 2025.
